Douglas‌ ‌Hemmerling‌ ‌lives‌ ‌in‌ ‌Winnipeg,‌ ‌Manitoba‌ ‌with‌ ‌his‌ ‌partner‌ ‌Christy‌ ‌Hemmerling‌ and‌ ‌their‌ ‌five‌ ‌children. ‌ ‌Doug‌ ‌was‌ ‌raised‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌north‌ ‌end‌ ‌of‌ ‌Winnipeg‌ ‌and‌ ‌shaped‌ ‌by‌ the‌ ‌diversity‌ ‌of‌ ‌his‌ ‌neighbourhood.‌ ‌A‌ ‌graduate‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌University‌ ‌of‌ ‌Manitoba‌ ‌Asper‌  School‌ ‌of‌ ‌Business‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌Lakehead‌ ‌University‌ ‌Environmental‌ ‌Education‌ ‌Program,‌ he‌ ‌has‌ ‌worked‌ ‌as‌ ‌an‌ ‌educator‌ ‌in‌ ‌his‌ ‌community‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌past‌ ‌12‌ ‌years. 

Doug‌ ‌is‌ ‌motivated‌ ‌to‌ ‌run‌ ‌for‌ ‌the‌ ‌Green‌ ‌Party‌ ‌of‌ ‌Canada‌ ‌by‌ ‌a‌ commitment‌ ‌to‌ ‌making‌  his‌ ‌community‌ ‌a‌ ‌compassionate‌ ‌and‌ ‌inspiring‌ ‌place‌ ‌to‌ ‌live.‌ ‌He‌ ‌believes‌ ‌that‌ ‌climate‌ change‌ ‌is‌ ‌an‌ ‌existential ‌threat‌ ‌to‌ ‌humanity‌ ‌and‌ ‌that‌ ‌we‌ ‌all‌ ‌have‌ ‌a‌ ‌part‌ ‌to‌ ‌play‌ ‌in‌ addressing‌ ‌our‌ ‌changing‌ ‌climate.‌ ‌

As‌ ‌a‌n ‌educator‌ ‌in‌ ‌our‌ ‌public‌ ‌school‌ ‌system,‌ ‌Doug‌ ‌believes‌ ‌in‌ ‌education‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ powerful‌ ‌tool‌ ‌for‌ ‌social‌ ‌and‌ ‌political‌ ‌change. ‌ ‌He‌ ‌is‌ ‌part‌ ‌of‌ ‌promoting‌ ‌the‌ ‌active‌ transportation‌ ‌network‌ ‌in‌ ‌Winnipeg‌ ‌and,‌ ‌over‌ ‌his‌ ‌career,‌ ‌has‌ ‌worked‌ ‌in‌ ‌conservation,‌  northern‌ ‌economic‌ ‌development,‌ ‌and‌ ‌developing‌ ‌educational‌ ‌curricula.‌ 

Doug‌ ‌is‌ ‌dedicated‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌development‌ ‌of‌ ‌a‌ ‌sustainable‌ ‌world‌ ‌and‌ ‌solving‌ ‌our‌ ‌global‌ climate‌ ‌issues.‌
